We have a One Month Old!

We started the week by celebrating mom’s first mother’s day!  We met Nonnie, Grandad, Gigi, Uncle Brian & Aunt Thip, Aunt Laura & Uncle Son, Uncle Alex and Uncle Carson at Social House in Addison for brunch.  Then we went to Mimi and Papa’s for dinner.  For mother’s day, I got some really cute outfits just for you and some great cards, chocolates and a mom figurine.  You are definitely the best mother’s day present.  I’m so blessed that God chose me to be your mommy.

We have been strolling more this week, getting up to 3 ½ miles on some days.  We always go by the new house to check out progress and send pictures to your dad.  This week, the column stone was completed and more of the brick.  We also worked with your cousin Matt to pick out the exterior paint colors.  We have just a month left in our house now, so we are really hoping progress speeds up.

You had your one month doctor’s appointment on Tuesday.  You have grown 2 more inches (23 inches total – 90%) and gained 2 more pounds (10 pounds 2 oz – 25-50%) since your last appointment.  Your head circumference is only 25%.  Since your dad and I both have small heads, I imagine your will be as well.  Apologies in advance!  Overall Dr. Hamner is pleased with your progress.  The one thing we have been working on is more tummy time because there is a flat part on the back of your head.

Although we have been better about getting you on a routine, we still have a long way to go.  Right now, you are wanting to eat every 2 hours.  We have been putting you down to sleep around 9 – 9:30pm and you typically sleep until 1 or 2 am and then wake up again around 6 to 7 am.  With the exception being Saturday night, you woke up at 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 am.  You might have a little digestion issues since we have been trying out new bottles and formula so we are working through this.

We met some new friends this week – Kristin / Griffin brought us breakfast on Tuesday morning, met Laura Smith on Thursday for lunch and Carmony (pregnant with Malone) for lunch on Friday.  We also started running errands without dad’s help.  We have also been watching House of Cards when you are feeding during the day (still breastfeeding during the day and formula at night).  If you become a politician one day, I will know where you got it from.

Your dad had a huge week at work this week – closing 5 deals.  Poor guy has been working a ton, so this weekend was spent catching up on sleep, went to dinner with Grandad on Saturday night and on Sunday Mimi and Papa, Daddy D and Aunt Elissa stopped by.

You had your first restless night this past week.  You kept waking up.  We are hoping this isn’t a trend.

You are becoming even more aware of lights, fans and people’s faces.  You are starting to grab people’s fingers with purpose (everyone watch your nose, you have been warned).  You love to stretch and stretch.  You blow bubbles and even stick your tongue out.  You love your longhorn pacifier.  It's especially adorable because you grab the horns when it's in your mouth.  You love the shusher and white noise machine - I think they relax you.

You are still very vocal about your dislike of baths and changing clothes.  Although diaper changes have become easier.  You still get the hiccups almost daily and sometimes they become a little much (and you grunt really loudly because you dislike them so).  We discovered gripe water this week and this makes your hiccups much better.

May Showers

It started with lights and fans.  And this week, you have become acutely aware of other items like animals on your play mat, funny faces and your “Go Bugs” on your car seat handle.  Your faces truly brightens whenever you discover something – your eyes get really big and sometimes (if it’s extra exciting) you ooh (no sound still).  We started walking briefly a couple of weeks ago, but this week you and I have really stretched the distance of our walks and have even strolled to the grocery store a few times.  Even though you fall asleep during most of our walks, you seem to enjoy getting fresh air.  Although you and I go by the new house on our walks, the three of us walk there in the evenings and check out any progress that has been made.  The trim, cabinets and brick are all going on this week.

On Thursday, we had a scary round of storms come through.  I had just put you down for a nap around 3pm when the skies darkened and the sheets of rain came through full force.  I heard a really large CRACK at the back of the house.  Missy shot out from the back room and ran under our bed.  I looked outside and noticed that our red bud tree outside had exploded and half of it was in the street.  The tornado sirens started going off.  Your bassinet was right next to our bedroom window so I picked you up and crouched down on the side of our bed away from the window to figure out what was going on.  Our internet wasn’t working well so I called your dad (who was being escorted down to the basement of his office building) to see if there was a tornado in our area.  He couldn’t tell so you and I got into the bathtub and waited (for what seemed like forever) until the weather had calmed down.  Gigi was at her office downtown and was also being escorted down to her basement.  You were a champ and slept through the entire thing.

After the storm blew over, I went into the backyard and realized that several large branches had broken off the pecan tree and had crashed down onto the porch below – which broke the bench on the porch.  There was also a branch stuck in the wires going into the house – which had affected the electricity.  The power was out for a while but then came back partially.  It would be this way for the next 24 hours.  Around our neighborhood, there were many trees uprooted (one across the street from our new house) and huge branches that had fallen.  We would see the debris on our walks over the next week and a half.  Although there was no tornado, we did have 70 mph straight line winds.  I’m a big sucker for weather events and love the drama but it was one of the scariest things I’d been through and even scarier because I had you.  You didn't seem to mind any of it.  Actually you slept through the whole thing swaddled in your infant bath tub.

The same night of the storm, we had a night nanny stop by to work with you on how to sleep through the night.  Because of this, we moved the bassinet into the guest room.  We started you on a bedtime routine where we feed you a lot during the day, put you to sleep at 9:30pm and work to push you to sleep until 3:30am.  We started using the shusher and pacifier to help you sleep.

On Saturday, you met the Bronstads for the first time and went to your Uncle Brian and Aunt Thip’s annual crawfish boil.  Nonnie and Mimi were there and you were held the whole time.

You started using a pacifier.  You started noticing your Go Bugs and animals on your activity mat.  You also started making these chipmunk noises when you are uncomfortable or when there is something you don’t want to do.

Lights and fans are still your favorite.  Every morning you ooh at the fan like it’s the first time you have seen it.  You still have quite the stretching routine.  You are a little yogi baby!  Man you love to eat. You are a great eater and can eat 5 ½ ounces in one sitting.  You are always putting your hands near your face – especially when you sleep

You still don’t like baths, changing into new clothes or having your diaper changed.  Although, you are getting better.

Sheer winds crushed our purple leaf plum tree

Lots of flooding by daddy's office

We heard this large branch smash against the house.  This was the aftermath

Clean up complete.  The debris was almost as tall as dad's truck!

You slept through the whole storm!

These go bug are pretty cool
I don't really enjoy my baths

 Stretching routine

Have my fans had enough or should I stretch some more?

Love how you sleep with your hands by your ears
