One my bestest friends in the whole wide world (Ashley Sheehan) took your 2 week old pictures. I LOVED how they turned out. Love you sweet baby...

The Great Easter Meltdown
The Great Easter Meltdown
The Great Easter Meltdown began the night before. Thanks to your parents, you didn’t get much sleep so I guess we had it coming. We were dealing with a million questions:
Would you prefer the bassinet to the swing? (we brought the bassinet in the room, took
out the swing. Once that didn’t work, we
brought the swing back in.)
Was your swaddle tight enough?
Was the white noise loud enough?
Were you hungry?
Did we change your diaper?
We worried about every detail. The next day was Easter (your first major
holiday) and you were an Easter basket case.
You cried non-stop through the morning.
It took us three hours to pack you up and get to McKinney, so we weren’t
able to arrive until 4pm. At your Nonnie
& Grandad’s house, there was a ton of family (The Shaheens, Brian &
Thip, Matt & Robyn Shaheen and family and Mimi & Papa) ready to see
you, but unfortunately you were out like a light! Eventually everyone got to pass your around,
even though you slept through it. Oh
well. We have many more holidays to
celebrate.
Your daddy went back to work on Monday morning and it was
very difficult. I sent him pictures and
videos of our time together at home. Our
days were spent feeding, napping (repeat) and trying to stay on a feeding
schedule. Because I had delivered you
via c-section, I still couldn’t move around very well. So, your Gigi took time off of work and came
over to help take care of you. On the
first day, we re-organized your dresser to take out clothes that weren’t going
to fit before we moved houses. This was
the first time you met Missy (our cat).
Missy had been staying at Gigi’s house.
Missy was an older cat and has been our only child until this
point. She is still warming up to you
little guy but I’m sure she will come around soon. You have also learned how to pull my hair. So needless to say, I’ve been putting my hair
in a ponytail. Jeff and Kristin Darnell
brought us soup and salad and presents for you Monday night. We can’t wait to introduce you to Griffin (he
is 18 months older than you) and their new little guy/gal who is due in
September.
Your Gigi came back over on Wednesday. Because we had housekeepers coming, we
decided to take you in the car to Babies R Us so that I could get you a few
things. The event turned out to be a
little bit of a disaster as we couldn’t get the car seat out of the car. So, your Gigi stayed with you while I ran in.
We gave you your second bath at our house and you were a champ – you didn’t
even cry when your dad let water run down your face. Trey and Jasmine brought
us a yummy casserole for dinner that night.
Jasmine loved holding you.
On Thursday, we spent about 10 minutes outside
together. You couldn’t make up your mind
if you liked it or not. When the lawn
crew from next door started their lawn mowers, it definitely killed the
deal. Since you were awake, we did tummy
time. You moved your head from side to
side. Your neck is already very
strong. When your dad came home, we took
a walk so that I could see the new house.
I hadn’t been to the house since the night before you were born. There have been a lot of developments such as
new floors and wall texture. I am so
excited for us to move into the new house and for the many memories that we
will have together. On our way home, we
strolled to Walmart. You slept through
the entire adventure. Once we got home
and changed your diaper, you peed on the curtains! I was both horrified and impressed at the
same time.
On Friday, we went back to the pediatrician’s office. Your belly button had been bleeding for
several days after your umbilical cord had fallen off (the Saturday
before). During the appointment, we
discovered that you had lost 2 more ounces since last week. This is very alarming for a newborn. Dr. Linney devised a VERY INTENSE feeding
schedule. As most new parents, we were
both exhausted. I had spent many long
nights up to this point feeding you and was really sad that you had continued to lose
weight. Your sweet dad gave me the best
gift ever, letting me sleep for most of the night and supplementing your
feedings with bottles. Your cousins Beth,
Matt, Elizabeth and Fiore brought us dinner.
Elizabeth and Fiore were so excited to meet you and brought you a
frog. They can’t wait to share
adventures with you once you are older.
On Saturday, we were back to the pediatrician to have you
weighed. We were both very excited that
you had gained 2 oz. in the less than 24 hour timeframe. Dr. Kennedy said that you are on the right
track. We felt better. Trish brought us dinner and was able to meet
you. You and your dad spent much of the
afternoon napping and watching the Mavs beat the Spurs in a nail biter.
It’s just so hard to believe that you are 2 weeks old today
baby Dylan. As we continue to get to
know you – what your little squeaks mean, what it means when you fuss and when
smile – we love you more and more with each day that passes.
You love to cuddle on mom’s and dad’s chest after feeding. Man, you love lights. You love to be swaddled tight and the shusher. You still manage to get your hands free no
matter how tight the swaddle is. You furrow your brow when something is very interesting.
You are still not a fan of the diaper change or putting
clothes on. We are still struggling with breastfeeding. We have been supplementing your feedings with
bottles.
